I learned a tremendous amount in this class and am still learning. Under Cathrine’s guidance, once daunting figure drawing became much more doable. And having long admired Cathrine’s work, I very much wished for more expressiveness in my own work. This class pushed me out of my comfort zone and into that more expressive realm….effects that will be felt for a long time to come. Extremely glad I took this class!

I wasn’t intending to sign up for any courses for a while. So I procrastinated for a while but I had a strong feeling that this class could take me to a new level in my art journey. And I am so glad that I made that decision! Cathrine is a fabulous teacher ( and of course, artist) I thought that I would want to race through the drawing section and move onto painting but found myself learning drawing techniques which I had not previously explored. There is quite a bit of magic in the course as you don’t know who exactly is going to show up in your painting and what they will be trying to convey. I have finished my first two paintings and now starting my third (BIG) attempt. I would love to take an ‘inperson’ class with Cathrine but this is definitely the next best thing. Thanks Cathrine for the inspiration and thanks Kara for making this possible.

This course was very interesting and complete. I enjoyed watching the demos and this very free approach of creating a painting mainly from imagination!
Also very interesting the combination of charcoal and paint.
Cathrine is a very knowledgeable artist and teacher , ready to share her unique approach. I enjoyed all the steps of this course. It encourages to free your imagination and create something very personal.

I recently treated myself to a course of private online one-to-one art lessons with Cathrine and found them to be very informative and helpful as I had reached a creative impasse and needed some guidance and direction with my own artwork. Cathrine is a wonderful teacher who is very generous with her time and knowledge and I was able to move forward once again with my own work. I have also purchased her online course as a follow up which I refer to when I need a little push again. Cathrine is not only a wonderful artist but a lovely person too. I would highly recommend taking lessons with her and may have some more in the future.

I was first introduced to Cathrine when I took an online class titled, “From Drawing to Painting the Figure”. Her lessons for this class were incredible – very thorough, very organized, accessible for all levels, and full of tips, techniques, and practical instruction for drawing the figure. I was very drawn to her intuitive approach, which is to let the figure “emerge” from the substrate, and to tell it’s own story.
Because of how much I learned from this class, and how much I enjoyed her approach, I was so excited when I learned that she offered private lessons and mentorships. I am a novice at figure drawing/painting, so I was somewhat apprehensive about approaching someone with Cathrine’s amazing talent, but I gathered up my courage, and contacted her. Her response was warm and welcoming, and I went on to take 6 private lessons with her.
These lessons influenced me significantly, and pushed my art forward in a way that I don’t think would have happened without these private lessons. She patiently looked at many, many pieces of my previous work, and was able to pick out areas for me to work on. She designed our lessons specifically for my needs and interests. Since I have not been formally trained, she encouraged me to go back to “basics”, particularly with drawing. I learned so much in such a short time!
During all of it, Catherine was responsive, warm, and encouraging. She gently gave valuable and honest feedback, and she encouraged me to find my own “voice” and my own direction with the tools I was learning. She is an awesome teacher, with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and she is kind and encouraging in her approach. I am so very grateful to have had the incredible opportunity to learn from her!

I followed Cathrine’s work for years before we purchased one of her pieces; I finally had the privilege of taking a workshop last year and now study with her each month. Her work speaks for itself, but I can sing her praises as a teacher.
A sign in my community reads: “Respect Others, Listen and Be Kind”. This is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of my sessions with Cathrine because she exemplifies this...plus, she has a sense of humor! In addition to that, her experience allows her to pinpoint specific areas in my painting where I can grow and then gives me tasks to help me get there. Her ability to maneuver through available online tools allows her to physically show me and she demos frequently. Aside from the technical aspects, I especially appreciate the discussion around how I think about painting; I am learning how to ‘see’ differently and consequently, am making better choices, am more patient, and am starting to be more satisfied with my results. Regardless of where you find yourself in your art journey, Cathrine has the ability to meet you there and contribute something positive.
